I've got a soft spot of reality shows. I don't like the reality shows that are basically talent shows like American Idol but I do like the sort that are behind the scenes or making of. One of the ones that I liked the best was the third season of Project Greenlight. I've got a soft spot for independent film makers and I've also got a soft spot for horror films. So it is little wonder that I liked watching the making of Feast so much. Sadly, watching the making of Feast was more entertaining than watching the actual movie.
Feast starts off well with some neat scenes where a character is introduced by a freeze frame that shows up the character's name, the profession, and the character's chances for living. It is a nice stylistic element but it is about as much style as the film has. The most interesting characters die quickly and the rest are bland and boring.
What exactly the "feat" monsters are is never explained and so we are just left with some people in a barricaded building trying to survive. Yawn.
I would say go watch Project Greenlight rather than this but it doesn't seem as if Project Greenlight is on dvd. That is doubly a shame since one of the star's of Project Greenlight, producer Chris Moore, was the only "celebrity" that I ever ran into in public. I was in the customs line at the Vancouver airport coming back from a conference and as the line zigged back and forth I saw him. I said to myself, "That looks like the producer from Project Greenlight" and just then his got on his phone and said, "Hi, this is Chris Moore." I didn't talk to him or anything but that was my brush with greatness...
two thumbs up
there are better films
and there are also worse films
and that's all I got
