Run Fatboy Run
I've liked pretty much everything I've seen Simon Pegg do. Spaced, Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, Spaced, and Doctor Who. While still entertaining it its own way this is probably his worst movie.
The premise is a variation on the standard romantic comedy formula in which the guy has to win back the girl. In this instance Pegg's character left his pregnant girlfriend at the alter 5 years ago. Now stuck in a dead end job he must try to win her back before Hank Azaria's character of a rich athletic American businessman marries her. How does he do it? By proving that he can see things through by training for and finishing a marathon.
Do not go and see this based on Pegg being in it because while he does a good performance there is none of his unique humor or wit in it. There's nothing special about this comedy. He looses the girl. He tries to win her back. Almost quits but learns a lesson. Then wins her back.
The only thing that makes this really different is the presence of the kid. It is kind of weird to see Pegg interacting with the kid. While it is odd it is also pretty sweet and nice to see a movie about parents who aren't together. Of course the whole movie is about them getting back together so it isn't all that out of the ordinary.
two thumbs up
Nothing to see here
move along everybody
Just wait for Star Trek.
